What is a Vulnerable Person?

A Vulnerable Person is defined as: a person who due to a medical, mental health, or physical condition may exhibit patterns of behaviour that may pose a danger to themselves. This may include but is not limited to the following:

Autistic individuals or individuals with Asbergers Syndrome

Individuals with Alzheimer's Disease

People with an debilitating head injury

People who have an inability to communicate

People with fascinations or attractions (water, construction sites etc.)

Social responses (fear of strangers, aggression)

Process

If you know of a family member or are a care giver of a Vulnerable Person then this registry is for you.

Why? Because this process could asist the Port Hope Police in locating them in event they are lost.

This registry could also assist the Port Hope Police with a more targeted response with regards to this person.  We often get sent to calls and encounter citizens who we aren't very familiar with.  This registry will help our officers recognize that there may be a better approach and could also potentially de-escalate a situation that has the potential to be volatile.

1) Fill out the VPR form

2) Find a picture/Take a Picture of the person you want to register

3) You can either submit the VPR form/photo in person at the Port Hope Police station or you can e-mail it to vpr@phps.on.ca

*Remember this registry is voluntary and the Port Hope Police will not share this information with anyone without your consent.

If you have any questions regarding the process give us a call at (905)885-8123
