Assault
A 50-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged after punching his daughter in the head.
Police were called to a Walton Street address on March 31, 2024, for reports of a family dispute in progress. Police arrived on scene and were met outside by the complainant, who was a friend of the daughters. It was learned that the daughter had broken a plate after becoming frustrated and as a result, her father punched her in the head twice. The daughter received medical attention at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
The accused was arrested and charged with assault and will answer to his charge at a later court date.
Impaired Driver
A 23-year-old Gores Landing male was arrested and charged with Impaired driving after he was pulled over for speeding in Port Hope.
On April, 7, 2024, a Port Hope Police Officer was on patrol in the area of Petr Street in Port Hope when he witnessed a vehicle driving eastbound at a high rate of speed. The officer paced the vehicle and eventually conducted a traffic stop around Hamilton Road. The vehicle was noted to be going 119km/h in a posted 50km/h zone. While informing the driver of his charge of stunt driving, the officer noticed obvious signs of impairment and a breathalyzer test was conducted.
As a result of the failed test, the male was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He is expected to answer to his charges at a later court date.
