Fatal Collison

On Monday the 21st of February at approximately 10:00 PM, the Port Hope Police Service was notified of a serious single vehicle motor vehicle collision that had occurred near Robertson Street and Mill Street South. Port Hope Police Service (PHPS) officers attended and determined that the collision resulted in the death of the driver of the vehicle. As a result the PHPS contacted the Ontario Provincial Police to attend with a Technical Traffic Collision Investigations team to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fatal collision. Initial information is that a CN Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Peter Street in Port Hope when the vehicle fled. The exact series of events that occurred are currently under investigation by the PHPS. The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) did not invoke their mandate for this collision as the CN Police is a federally regulated police service and the SIU has no jurisdiction in this case. A 19 year old Cobourg man was pronounced deceased as a result of this collision.

Anyone with information are asked to contact Port Hope Police at 905-885-8123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
