Impaired by Drug
On Saturday June 12, 2021 around 2:20 pm a witness followed a suspected impaired driver from Elgin Street Cobourg ON, into Port Hope, ON. The witness advised police he was two vehicles behind the suspect vehicle however he could see the vehicle swerving in and out of the westbound lanes on Elgin Street, Cobourg Ontario. The witness observed the driver of the vehicle cross the lanes into the eastbound traffic several times. The witness remained on the telephone with our dispatch centre until an officer was able to attend the area. The witness who was still in area flagged down the officer and gave his observations to police and indicated the vehicle had gone down Lake Street and had not returned . Port Hope Police located the vehicle in a parking lot on Lake Street. The driver, Adam Bell age 40 was slumped over the steering wheel. The vehicle was in drive, but Bell somehow still had his foot on the brake. Adam Bell was arrested for impaired driving. The accused is currently before the courts on two other charges of impaired driving. The accused will appear in court in July to answer to the charges.
