Covid-19 Provincial Orders

The Port Hope Police Service are reminding residents and businesses that the Provincial State of Emergency is still in effect.  The orders are:

•All facilities providing indoor recreational programs;

•All public libraries;

•All private schools as defined in the Education Act;

•All licensed child care centers;

•All bars and restaurants, except to the extent that such facilities provide takeout food and delivery;

•All theatres including those offering live performances of music, dance, and other art forms, as well as cinemas that show movies; and

•Concert venues

Further, all organized public events of over fifty people are also prohibited, including parades and events and communal services within places of worship. These orders were approved by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and will remain in place until March 31, 2020, at which point they will be reassessed and considered for extension, unless this order is terminated earlier. Further a mandatory closure for 2 weeks is in place for all non essential businesses. For the list

Covid -19 Federal Orders

The Federal Government has enacted The Quarantine Act and has issued an order that any person returning into Canada must self-quarantine themselves for 14 days. This is now mandatory.

Covid-19 Municipal closing of playgrounds

Closure of playground structures and equipment

To maintain the health and wellness of our community, all municipal playground structures and equipment are now off limits to our community. The World Health Organization has advised that, “…the novel coronavirus may remain on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days, depending on several conditions, including type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment.” Our playgrounds are high-touch surfaces and cannot be sanitized after each use. This is a preventative measure for the well-being of all members in our community.

Restricted use of the playground structures and equipment is not easily enforced. We ask all parents, grandparents and caregivers to help us implement this extreme measure by speaking to your children and helping to keep them off the structures.

Parks are not closed altogether, and you may still enjoy our green spaces, if you remember to practice social distancing.
