Media Release - January 31, 2024

 

Impaired by Drugs

Two Port Hope males were arrested and charged after they were reported to be passed out in a vehicle in a local business parking lot.

On January 27th, 2024, an off-duty member of the Port Hope Police Service, was attending a local business when he came across the two accused asleep in a vehicle.  Prior to Police arrival the driver drove to a residential street where he parked. Police were notified of their location and as a result of their investigation, the driver, a 51-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged with Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and Adult Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin). The passenger, a 44-year-old Port Hope male was also arrested and charged with Adult Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin).

 

Traffic stop leads to arrest on Warrant

A Cobourg male has been arrested and transported to Cobourg Police on outstanding warrants.

On January 31st, 2024, a traffic stop on a vehicle was conducted for a Highway Traffic act offence.  During the traffic stop, a passenger of the vehicle was identified, and an investigation determined that he was wanted for the offences of Fail to Appear and Robbery in Cobourg.   A 57-year-old Port Hope Male was arrested and transported to the Cobourg Police Service where he was held for a Bail Hearing.  

 

Mischief

A 45-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged with mischief after video surveillance showed him damaging a common area of a residential complex.

On Saturday January 20 Port Hope Police received notification that a break and enter had occurred to a housing unit on Peter Street. 

During the investigation it was learned that the door that was kicked in leads to a common area of the building. As a result of the door being locked at the time of the kick, the door jamb was damaged.

Video of the occurrence was obtained and as a result, the suspect was identified.

The male was released with a court appearance on March 6, 2024.



Warrant

A North York female was arrested and charged after failing to comply with and OIC Undertaking stemming from an incident in September 2023.

On September 2, 2023, the accused was arrested and charged with Theft under $5,000.00. She was released on an Officer-in-charge Undertaking with multiple conditions.  Once of those conditions being that she must remain in the province of Ontario. The accused signed that she understood the conditions she was being released on.

On January 17, 2024, Port Hope Police Service was contacted by an officer from the Richmond, BC detachment of the RCMP.  He advised the currently had a female at their detachment assisting with translation.  Port Hope Police Officer’s confirmed that the accused's conditions were still in effect and that she was breaching her conditions. 

As a result, the accused is charged with Section 145(4)(a) - Fail to Comply with an OIC Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code.  Due to the fact the accused appears to be out of province, a warrant will be sought for her arrest.
