Port Hope Police are advising the public to be aware of a jewellery scam. On the 11th of May at around 4:00pm a local man was walking his dog on Ridout Street when he was approached by two men in vehicle.  They asked this man for directions. The driver exited the vehicle and approached the man admiring his rings. The man took hold of the dog walker's hand and dropped gold rings in his hand. He then inspected the man’s gold necklace putting it back around his neck. The man then got back into his vehicle and left.  When the dog walker got home he realized the gold rings were not his but fake gold and his gold necklace was switched with a fake one. The two men are described as possibly Middle Eastern Descent the driver was about 50 years old and balding. The vehicle was described as a brown sedan.

On the 14th of May shortly after 2:00pm two men approached man on Hamilton Road and offered gold rings for sale to pay for fuel.  They were similar in description as the earlier incident but driving a white vehicle. In this case the male complainant was suspicious and told the man the police were called and were on their way. The two men quickly left the area.  Port Hope Police are continuing the investigation and are asking residents to call police if approached by suspicious person(s) offering articles or jewellery for sale.
