Man resists arrest/break and enter/mischiefs

Man charged with resisting arrest and other offences.

A 57 year old Port Hope man is facing charges after Port Hope Police were called to  the Lake Street area after a report of someone setting off fireworks. Shortly after 11:00pm on July 4th Port Hope Police officers located a group of people down by the lake at the east end of Lake Street. Fireworks were being held and shot over the water. One man became belligerent with Police Officers when advised of the by-law prohibiting fireworks, open fires and the provincial legislation regarding consuming liquor in a public place. The belligerent behavior continued and Police Officers arrested the man for being intoxicated in a public place. The man struggled with Police during the arrest however he was eventually taken into custody.  Patrick Skiffington is charged with resisting arrest, breach of probation and being intoxicated in a public area. He appears in court in September.  

Break and Enter(s)

Port Hope Police are investigating two break and enters and damage to vehicles that occurred in the Freeman Drive/Victoria Street area. On the 5th of July shortly after 3:00am Police were called to the area after a home owner went for a walk and noted the damage to his vehicles further checks of the property revealed his back yard shop was entered and items taken.   A neighbor later located items taken from the shop in his garage.  It appears culprit(s) were also consuming alcohol on the two properties. Mischief(s) reported around Urban Port Hope last few days.

On the 5th of July 2020 shortly after 7:00am Port Hope Police Officers were called to a south end residence after the owner noted damage done to a community library box. The box contained books and are popular in the area for people to “take one and or leave one.” The library box was knocked over and the door and plexiglass front was damage.  It is believed the mischief occurred over night the 4/5 July.

On July 7th shortly after 2:00 PM Port Hope Police were called to a north end residence after the owner of a BWM noted his vehicle had been scratched. The incident is believed to have occurred down town at the municipal lot located on Cavan St.  The vehicle was parked there earlier and during that time someone scratched the door.

On the 8th of July at noon Port Hope Police attended a North End residence after the owner of a Mazda 3 noted a dent in the door of the vehicle. It appears that overnight someone kicked the door of the vehicle as it was parked in the driveway denting it. Police located a partial dusty foot print on the door.
