Vehicle Safety tips for the Holidays

Port Hope Police are advising residents to make sure they lock their vehicles when not in use.  The lock it or lose it campaign is in effect during the Christmas Season but in reality it is a good rule of thumb all year. Port Hope Police through the OACP offer the following 10 tips.

  • ·        Ensure your doors are always locked and the keys are in your pocket.
  • ·        Always park in well-lit areas.
  • ·        Never leave money in plain sight
  • ·        Always roll up car windows.
  • ·        Put Shopping bags or other parcels in the trunk.
  • ·        Ensure GPS is put in a safe, out of sight, location.
  • ·        Keep your vehicle registration and proof of insurance on your person.
  • ·        Take electronics including cell phone with you.
  • ·        Do not leave your car running while unattended.
  • ·        If you are parking in the same parking lot often park in a different location so not to create a pattern.
