Media Release 11th January 2018

Man facing charges as a result of family dispute.

A 27 year old Peterborough man is facing charges after Port Hope Police were called to an east end residence in the late evening hour on the 9th of January 2018.  The man, who is the son of the victim, attended at the residence demanding money. This resulted in a dispute that became heated. The victim left the residence to attend the Port Hope Police Office.  Port Hope Police commenced and investigation. On the 10th of January 2018 the man was arrested. He is charged with criminal harassment and forcible entry.  No names will be released in order to protect the identity of the victim. 

Vehicle stolen while left running

On the 10th of January 2018 shortly before 8:30pm Port Hope Police were called to the A1 Convenience store located on Wellington Street regarding a theft of a vehicle. The caller reported that he left his vehicle running while he went into the store to check lottery tickets. While in the store he observed the vehicle being reversed out of the parking spot and driven away.  He observed the vehicle entering the westbound 401.  Police checked the area and notified area Police Agencies.  Police are looking for a black 2017 Dodge Durango Ontario Licence plate CBEM750.  Police continue to warn residents not to leave vehicles unattended while running especially unlocked as they are easy targets for thieves.

Small Fire extinguished

Another fire was discovered and extinguished before major damage occurred.  On the 11th of January 2018 a works department employee noted a small fire set in the Walton and Pine Street area. The employee extinguished the fire by kicking snow on it.  This is the second occurrence in 4 days in the same area.  Police are continuing the investigation and focusing on these incidents as being targeted rather than random acts.  Anyone with information is asked to call Port Hope Police at 905-885-8123, email phps@phps.on.ca or call crime stoppers.
