Suspect to Identify

On Saturday October 30th, 2021, in the morning, police responded to multiple business located in the downtown core of Port Hope, in regards to mischief.

Impaired Driving

On Saturday October 30th, 2021, while on general, police located a motor vehicle in the area of Ontario Street, and located the driver unconscious at the wheel. Police were able to wake the male up, and could detect a strong odor of alcohol. 

Through investigation a 51-year-old Cobourg resident Shane YEW WOON was charged with the following:

Fail or refusal to comply with demand contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. 

YEW WOON was released on an Appearance Notice with a court date, and a 90 day driver's license suspension, and 7 day vehicle impound. 

 

On Sunday October 31st, 2021, while on general patrol, police observed a motor vehicle traveling in the area of Ontario Street, at a high rate of speed and with no lights on. 

Police conducted a traffic stop on the motor vehicle, and after detecting odor of alcohol, made a demand on the driver to provide a breath sample of their breath in an Approved Screening Device. 

The driver provided a sample, and the Approved Screening Device read a Caution, advising the driver had a Blood Alcohol Concentration between 50mg to 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in their system. As a result the driver had their vehicle towed, and their driver's license was suspended for 3 days. 

Port Hope Police Service want to remind the public to always plan for a safe way to get home, and encourage to call 911 if you suspect an impaired driver. Port Hope Police Service will be conducting ride programs as we get into the holiday season, and will have no tolerance for impaired driving. 

Obstruct Police 

On Sunday October 31, 2021, while on general patrol, observed a motor vehicle driving at a high rate of speed in the North end of Port Hope, and conducted a traffic stop to check for impaired driving. 

The driver provided a false name to police, when instructed to identify himself with a driver's license. 

As a result of the investigation 27-year-old Port Hope resident Dustin WESENBERG was charged with the following: 

1. Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Drive motor vehicle- no license contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

WESENBERG was released on an Appearance Notice, and Summons, with a future court date.
