Assault Peace Officer and Intoxicated in a Public Place

The Ministry of Natural Resources called for Port Hope Police on Monday night September 28, 2021 for a intoxicated male falling in and out of the river. When police arrived they escorted the male to the ambulance as it was cold after being in the water. The male began resisting police and kicked the officer in the mouth. As a result the accused, Arson Piloyants of North York was charged with assaulting a peace officer, and being intoxicated in a public placed. Piloyants will appear in court to answer to the charges in late October. 

 

Utter Threats and Aggravated Assault Charges

 On Wednesday morning September 29, around 5:13 am Police Hope Police were called to a domestic related incident. Officers learned from the female party her common-law partner was upset over the two month old baby crying and as a result threw a pillow over the small child.  The mother woke to muffled cries and when dialed 911 her partner assaulted her and  threatened to kill for calling police on him. The male took off from the residence prior to police arrival. Police later arrested the accused and released him on an officer in charge undertaking. The accused has been charged with aggravated assault, assault and uttering a death threat. The name of the accused is not being released to  protect the victims.  

Dangerous Operation and Impaired by Drug

An off duty officer was the witness to an impaired, dangerous driver on September 29, 2021 around 7:14 pm. The officer who was travelling eastbound toward Cobourg observed  a westbound vehicle approach him in his lane. The witness observed the vehicle swerve back and forth from lane to lane. The officer turned and followed the vehicle. The vehicle approached the traffic lights on County Road 2, at Hamilton Twp., Road, which was red. The officer could see two vehicles in front of the impaired stopped for the red light. The officer called for an ambulance as he knew the impaired driver would collide with the one if not both of the vehicles stopped at the red light.  Without slowing down, the driver swerved to the right hitting both vehicles and the guard rail and still continued westbound. The officer tired to get the driver to pull over several times. The driver eventually was stopped. The accused,  George Smith age 31 from Peterborough was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and operation while impaired - drugs and alcohol. The accused will appear in court in October to answer to the charges.

Police are seeing an increase of impaired drivers by drugs.  Please call 911 if you suspect an impaired driver. Please stay on the line with the 911 operator until you see police in the area.  You could save a life by calling 911. 

September 30th, 2021 is the end of Salmon fishing. Thank you to all fishermen and women who abided by the social distance rules and respected the river and each other.
