Media Release 7th February 2018 Drug Charges/Fraud Charges/Pedestrian struck by vehicle.

Drug possession charges laid

A 35 year old Cobourg woman is charged with possession of controlled substance as a result of a Police investigation. On February 2nd shortly before 3:00pm. Port Hope Police were called to the Toronto Road area after a citizen called because a woman was running into the roadway causing traffic to veer around her.  Police located the woman and determined that she was wanted on warrants with Cobourg Police.  She was taken into custody and as a result needles were located in her purse that contained what police believed to be a schedule 1 substance heroin.  The woman was turned over to Cobourg Police for them to process her on their warrants.  She appears in court later in February.

Woman charged with fraud

A 36 year old former Port Hope woman is facing numbers charges of fraud after Port Hope Police commenced an investigation into a theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. The investigation was commenced in October 2017 resulting in her arrest on February 5th 2018.  Police alleged the woman stole cheques and a credit card from a family member then proceed to use them.  The total loss is approximately $4000.00 for cash advances, rental cars, hotels and purchased items.  The woman is charged with 29 counts of fraud, 2 counts of theft and one count of failing to comply with a recognizance to keep the peace. 

Pedestrian struck by vehicle.

A 51 year old Port Hope man was treated for non-life threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the Hayward Street/Ontario Street area. The accident occurred shortly before 7pm on the 6th of February 2018. A vehicle being driven eastbound on Hayward Street clipped the man as he veered to go north on Ontario.  The man was transported to NHH by ambulance and treated for a gash to his head.  Port Hope Police determined the area was not very well lit, there were no sidewalks and the man was wearing darker clothing. Further snow banks were reducing the travel portion of the roadway. After an investigation it was determined that no charges would be laid against the driver.

Port Hope Police advises pedestrians and drivers to use extra care walking and or driving. If walking at night where reflective clothing and/or carry a light source.
