Respect the River

Salmon migration in the Ganaraska River continues to be one the most important natural phenomenon in Port Hope. To ensure that the river is respected and that future generations can continue to enjoy  fishing the Ganaraska, Port Hope Police Service will actively enforce the Municipality’s night fishing bylaw and has a zero tolerance enforcement approach to failure to release snagged fish, possession of a snagger, use of gaffs, bows, dip nets, possession of a spear, fishing in the identified sanctuary, abandoning a fish, fishing without a licence, failure to produce a licence, or failure to carry licence.

Port Hope Police will be conducting foot patrol along the Ganaraska River enforcing the night fishing ban from 8:00pm -6:00am Aug 15-Sept 30 from Molson Street Bridge to Robertson Street Bridge .

Port Hope Police want to remind the Community that each day we respond to fraud calls. Please do not hesitate to call our administration line or attend our office if you think something is a scam.
We do not want to see our community members fall victim to these kind of incidents.
