Media Release 13th December 2017

Man charged with stunt driving.

A 23 year old Bethany man was charged with stunt driving after a Port Hope Police officer conducting radar caught the man driving 64 km over the posted speed limit. On December 10th the man was driving on Hamilton Rd when he was alleged to be “clocked” driving 114km in a posted 50km zone.  The man’s vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He appears in court in January 2018.    

A woman and teenager charged with assault.

Charges have been laid in connection with an alleged assault that occurred on December 9th but reported to Police on the 10th of December.  Police were told that a 16 year old victim attended a house party in Port Hope Saturday night when it is alleged that she was “jumped” by two other people and was punched and kicked when she fell to the ground.  The fight was broken up by other people in the house.  18 year old Eden Julia Rosenberg of Toronto and a teenager who cannot be identified under the youth criminal justice act are both charged with Assault causing bodily harm.  They turned themselves into Port Hope Police on the 11th of December and are scheduled to appear in court in February 2018.

R.I.D.E

Port Hope Police Festival RIDE continues. Four RIDE programs have been conducted so far with 1500 vehicles being checked resulting in no arrests for impaired related offences.  1 Provincial Offence has been issued and 8 warnings for minor infractions were given.   The Festive RIDE programs will be in effect during the Holiday Season. 

Port Hope Police encourage people to utilize taxis and other driving services like Operation Red Nose which is a national program dedicated to the fight against drinking and driving. It is a free, confidential, volunteer-driver service offered to any individual who has been drinking or who simply do not feel fit to drive his/her vehicle home. The number for Operation Red Nose is 905 377 1218 and volunteers will be in operation December 15,16,22,23 and 31
