Joint Investigation Leads to Drug Charges

A Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant was executed at a residence on University Avenue East in the Town of Cobourg.

On October 29, 2025, as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking occurring in the Town of Cobourg and surrounding areas, members from both the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) and Port Hope Police Service (PHPS) conducted a traffic stop in the area of County Road 45 and Dunbar Road. Three occupants of the vehicle were arrested without incident.

Subsequent to the traffic stop, members of the CPS, PHPS, and Belleville Police Service executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at a University Avenue East residence in the Town of Cobourg.

A search of the vehicle and residence resulted in police seizing the following:

  • Approximately 31 grams of cocaine with a potential street value of $3,700;
  • Approximately $1,100 in Canadian currency believed to have been directly obtained by the commission of a criminal offence;
  • Multiple cell phones; and,
  • Other indicia of drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, 34-year-old Cobourg resident, Emma SUGHRUE was charged with Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance – cocaine and Possession of Proceeds obtained by crime under $5000.

The accused was held for a bail hearing. The other two occupants of the vehicle were released unconditionally.
