Port Hope Police Remind Community of Back-to-School Safety
Port Hope—With the first day of school just around the corner, the Port Hope Police Service is reminding drivers, parents, and students to keep safety top of mind as children return to classrooms next week.
“Our community streets will be busier during morning and afternoon hours,” said Chief Farquharson. “We ask everyone to slow down, pay attention, and ensure our children arrive at school and home safely.”
Safety Reminders:

School Zones: Slow down and obey all posted speed limits in designated school areas. Extra patrols will be monitoring these zones.

Crosswalks & Crossing Guards: Drivers must stop and yield the entire roadway to pedestrians at designated crosswalks and when directed by a crossing guard.

School Buses: When school bus lights are flashing red, vehicles in both directions must stop. Passing a stopped school bus is dangerous and carries significant fines and demerit points.

Distractions: Stay focused on the road. Put away phones and other distractions, especially in busy school areas.

Cyclists & Walkers: Remind children to use sidewalks where available, cross at designated intersections, and wear helmets when cycling.
