Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Charges

On May 3, 2025, while on patrol, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle observed speeding and making an unsafe turn. The investigation revealed the driver was operating under suspension and had an inoperative seatbelt assembly.

Further observations led officers to believe the driver was impaired by drugs. The individual was arrested at the scene. A subsequent search located suspected cocaine and drug-related paraphernalia.

As a result, a 49-year-old Port Hope male was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired, alcohol and drugs - Contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, to wit: cocaine - Contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Driving while under suspension - Contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Speeding - Contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Turn not in safety - Contrary to section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Drive with seat belt assembly inoperative - Contrary to section 106(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The male was released with a future court date.
