Port Hope Residents Cautioned About Paving Scam
Port Hope Police are warning residents about a suspicious paving company canvassing the area, offering driveway resurfacing services. Homeowners have reported being approached by individuals claiming they are completing work nearby and offering discounted rates for driveway paving.
The company provides quotes that seem too good to be true and promises completion within approximately two days. However, multiple reports indicate that after a homeowner agrees to the job but requests a contract before work begins, paving crews start work without providing or signing an agreement.
This tactic has been reported in other municipalities and regions, where police have received multiple complaints about the company's practices. The rushed process and improper paving methods result in poor workmanship, causing driveways to degrade quickly.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and conduct thorough research before hiring contractors. Ensure any company you hire is reputable, provides a written contract, and follows proper business practices. A discounted price may lead to substandard work and costly repairs in the future.
