Impaired Driving

After reports of a domestic dispute Port Hope Police responded to the address and located a 26 year old male sitting in a vehicle. The officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath.  As a result Dylan Genno was arrested for impaired operation on November 1, 2020.  The accused will appear in court in early December to answer to the charge.

Port Hope Police want to remind the citizens of Port Hope to drink responsibly and plan ahead. You can do this by making sure you have a sober drive home.

Relationship Scam

A 58 year old woman has become a victim of a relationship scam. The victim met a man on the dating app “Tinder”. The two exchanged personal phone numbers and communicated daily over a 6 week period. The male indicated he was currently in Cyprus and had his passport taken by immigration and he required money to get his documents returned to him. The male said if she transferred money through bitcoin to get his personal papers back he would come to Port Hope to visit her.  The victim ended up sending three separate bitcoin transactions all within three days of each other.  The total loss for the victim is excess of $13,000.00 dollars.

Identity Fraud

Another member of our community became the victim of identity fraud.  This fraud was discovered when the man tried to purchase a new vehicle but was not able to get the financing. After looking into the matter he learned there had been two cash money loans taken out in his name back in 2017.  The victim was told the loans were taken out near Port Hope ON.
