Press Release March 29-April 14

Warrant

On the 29th of March 2022, a 37-year-old Pickering male was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Fraud under $5000.  The warrant is a result of an investigation that took place in November 2021 where the male defrauded the Northumberland Aquatic Club of $952.37.  The male was released on an undertaking to appear in court again on the 4th of May in Cobourg to answer to the charge.

 

Stunt Driving

On March 29, 2022, an 18-year-old Cavan male was charged with Stunt Driving.   Port Hope Police were conducting traffic enforcement around Rose Glen Road and Croft Street when they observed and locked the vehicle in radar travelling at 98 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.  Stunt driving charge was laid as the male driver was travelling more than 40 km/h or more in a zone less than 80km/h.  He will appear in court on the 25th of May 2022.  His vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Warrant

On the 31st of March 2022 Port Hope Police were called to an incident at Optimist Park for people fishing out of season.  On arrival police conducted a CPIC check on a 26-year-old Mississauga male.  The check revealed that he was wanted by Aurora OPP and Kingston Police Service for Theft Under $5000.  The male was arrested and transported to the Port Hope Police Station where he was later turned over to the Kingston Police.

Domestic Disturbance

On Friday April 1st, 2022 Port Hope Police responded to a Dorsett Street residence regarding a domestic dispute.  Investigation revealed that a 30-year-old Port Hope male had threatened his partner with bodily harm.  He was arrested and held for a bail hearing on the 2nd of April 2022.

 

Stunt Driving/ Speed Measuring warning device/ Possession of Schedule I Substance Cocaine/ Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

On the 3rd of April 2022 Port Hope Police were on general patrol in the area of Hwy 28 near Telephone Road.  Police observed a Yellow truck pull out of the Ultramar gas station at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle/driver was observed to be spinning its tires on the dry pavement and swerving in and out of the concrete medians. 

Police conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 28.  As police approached the vehicle/driver, they observed a radar detector (speed measuring warning device).  Officers also observed a white powdery substance (cocaine) on the dash of the vehicle.  The 43-year-old Port Hope male was placed under arrest.  When the male was removed from the vehicle police observed a set of brass knuckles in the centre console.  The vehicle was towed from the scene and was impounded for 14 days.  Male was transported to the Port Hope Police Station and later released on an Undertaking to attend court on the 18th of May 2022 in Cobourg.

Fraud

On the 6th of April 2022, Port Hope Police arrested a 46-year-old Hamilton, Ontario male for Fraud over $5000.  Police were advised that between October 2021 and April 6, 2022 the manager of a local business conducted 20 fraudulent refunds.  The refunds were placed on the manger’s personal bank cards.  The total loss reported in these transactions totaled $6342.34.  He was released from custody and will appear in court on the 18th of May 2022.

Warrant

On the 6th of April 2022 a 42-year-old Port Hope male was observed in the area of the West Beach of Port Hope.  Police were aware that he was wanted for failing to attend court.  A check was done and confirmed the male was wanted.  He was arrested and later released for a court date of May 25th, 2022.

Possession of Stolen Property

On Friday April 8th, 2022, Port Hope Police were contacted by a passing motorist regarding a male that walked in front of her vehicle on Highway 2 near Hamilton Road where she nearly struck him with her vehicle.  Police arrived in the area and observed and spoke to a 48-year-old Toronto male that was under the influence of drugs.  Paramedics arrived and assisted the male.  Police learned that the male was currently released on several conditions.  One of the conditions was not to possess (banking) cards that are not in his name.  As a result of his arrest, police located credit cards in the male’s possession that were not his.  He was released on an appearance notice for court on the 8th of June 2022.

Mischief  

On Monday April 11, 2022 Port Hope Police were dispatched to a business in the downtown area where a 24-year male had flipped over tables and chairs outside of the business.  Police arrived, and the male was still in the area.  Police arrested the male for mischief (interfering with the lawful use or enjoyment of property).  The male was transported to the Port Hope Police Station and later released on an undertaking to attend court on the 25th of May 2022.

Breach of Release Conditions

On the 11th of April 2022, Port Hope Police were on general patrol in the area of Lents Lane.  Police observed a 30-year-old Port Hope male and a 27-year-old Cobourg female walking together.  The officer was aware that the two were not supposed to be communicating with each other.  The officer confirmed that the male was arrested a week prior for threatening the female.  The female was also arrested as she was named in the release order.  Both parties were placed under arrest and later released on appearance notices for court in May.

          

Port Hope Police want to remind citizens to help keep the roads safe. You can do this by planning ahead for a sober ride home. If you witness an impaired driver, call 911.
